Alladale Lodge and Reserve
Alladale Lodge is a magical Estate in the Highlands of Scotland. They had created a 500 Acre paddock to hold their Wild Boar. Part of this new fenceline ran down the side of the hill, leaving a scar that was visible from miles around.
Alladale Lodge is environmentally sensitive and as this Scar had not mellowed in the four years since the fenceline was installed. They asked if I could assist in re-establishing vegetation.
The area was too steep for any form of mechanical seeding and the area did not have a medium for any seed to establish into.
The solution was to manually add a growing medium to the area. Create small dams down the slope to slow the water flow. Followed by seeding and finally a nutient mix was applied using back-pack sprayers.
The above pictures show the Scar before work took place.
The pictures below show the same Scar six weeks after treatment.
Now that we've got vegetation the area will continue to catch sediment and local seed, such as heather.
This will result in a more natural vegetation cover that given time will hide the rocks. We've given nature the head start it needed.
